PLAYWRIGHT | ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
This new play toured with funding from the Art Council England in co-production with Greenwich Theatre, and with additional funding from Unity Theatre Trust and the Balcombe Charitable Trust. The full production toured for the first time in March 2016 to Greenwich Theatre, London; The Lowry, Salford; The Old Market, Brighton; and Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds. It received a Lyn Gardner Pick Of The Week and four and five star reviews.
Developed with funding from the Art Council England, Alice and Anna spoke with women in London, Brighton and Leeds about their experiences of growing up in Britain, to create a story of the horrors of moving back in with your mum in your 30s, of finally appreciating the best piece of advice your grandmother ever gave you and of extraordinary family secrets held across the generations.
In conjunction with the play, Broken Leg launched an online archive of women’s stories of over 1,800 submissions, which was written about in the Independent on Sunday. Alice and Anna are the Artistic Directors of Broken Leg Theatre. Their previous play, My Second Life, won an Argus Angel Award at the Brighton Fringe Festival and later transferred to London.
